Reiki and Eating with Your Whole Being

Being the day after Bluestem Earth Festival 2017, I thought it would be the perfect time to write about the connection of Reiki and eating with your whole being.

Recently, my Animal Reiki teacher, Kathleen Prasad, suggested a couple of vegan cookbooks by Kris Carr and Oh She Glows. Thank you, Kathleen ♥️ For almost 30 years I’ve been a lazy vegetarian; meaning I don’t eat meat/fish/poultry, but eat a lot of processed vegetarian foods. I’ve reached a time in my life where a vegan lifestyle is calling me simply because of my love for animals and the desire to feel better about what goes into my body.

Kris Carr’s and Oh She Glows cookbooks are life changing. You don’t have to be vegan to use them and I promise that you won’t be disappointed! They’re a phenomenal compliment to what you already prepare. They showed me that healthy eating for your whole being can actually be fun and easy. I love the recipes and think you will too! Enjoy!!💛

Happy New Year!
I recently visited a special place called HorsePower for Kids while visiting family for the holiday (pictures below). It was such a big place, and could’ve stayed there the whole day. Being an animal lover, it was one of the highlights of our visit. HorsePower for Kids is run by volunteers of all ages and founder, Armando Gort, has a beautiful mission:

“HorsePower for Kids, Inc. is a 501©(3) non-profit organization who provides a farm and petting zoo for people who would benefit from interaction with animals and horses.

Create educational opportunities for children and adults to interact and care for vulnerable animals.

It is my experience that children, once exposed to horse riding, develop a relationship that aids in all other forms social behaviors. It is as if a protect layer is lifted and they become more open as individuals.”

Renewal and Healing Trees

Running, Restorative Yoga, Nature, and Reiki help my mind and body to
renew itself. They also open space for new ideas to flow. Today on my
run, a Reiki experiment came into play. We have two ash trees that are
in need of extra TLC due to the ash borer bug that’s taking over the
area. We’re doing everything we can to save the trees, but they need a
boost. So for the next 8 weeks I’m going to offer Reiki and hugs to
them. Who doesn’t love a hug?
I’ll keep you posted! Those trees are going to feel so much love and
maybe the bugs will too- so they won’t need to host on the trees :)

Be sure to check out my facebook page for updates: Amber Shaner- Animal Reiki https://www.facebook.com/amberreiki.for.pets

New Faces

You might have noticed some new faces on my Animal Reiki Facebook page over the last couple of months. They are the faces of the courageous, brave, and gentle-hearted. They are the pit bulls of Midwest Rescue of IL.

It all began this September when I held a booth at a local pet expo to share information about Animal Reiki. On that cold morning, where autumn was finding its way back into Illinois, I had a feeling it would be a special day. Across from my booth, I noticed a bird rescue and stepped out to take a quick peek. So my wonderful husband filled in for me at my station. Upon my return, I saw a dog like no other, one with an enormous soul. His fur was a striking golden coffee color, his eyes so endearing, freckles like angel kisses, and a heart so open. His name was Noah.

Noah was with several people who were in tune with his every emotion: Debbie, JJ, and Julie, the directors of Midwest Rescue of IL. He introduced to his pit bull buddy, Bones. As Noah explored my booth, he claimed it. He sniffed around my table, allowed a brief two-minute Reiki offering, and snuggled on the dog blanket placed near my table. It was at that moment I understood why I put that blanket there. Immediately, Noah captured my heart and has had a hold of it ever since.

The connection I felt with Noah was like one with a long lost friend. His presence was so playful, gentle, and innocent - a presence you wanted to be around. Thankfully, that is just what happened.

Not being able to adopt Noah (our 26 year old bird is terrified of large dogs), I was thrilled at the next best thing! Midwest Rescue of IL asked if I would offer Reiki to some of their rescue and shelter pit bulls, Noah included! I was elated and felt like I had won the lottery. This was the very thing that I had sent out into the universe months before. I craved to volunteer at a rescue where the directors understood the concept of holistic health, a community where the animals were put first, and I could offer Reiki to those in need. Midwest Rescue of IL is just that, and more!

Debbie, JJ, and Julie are three of the best rescue directors I have ever been in contact with. They understand the importance of holistic health and welcome energy healing to assist their dogs. They work fearlessly and tirelessly to ensure that their rescues are placed in forever homes that are filled with quality care and lots of love. They also surround themselves with incredible volunteers and foster homes for the dogs. Their foster parents generously offer their homes and life to support the dogs so that they can be out of the shelter and in a comfortable, caring setting. Their volunteers walk the dogs consistently to ensure a high quality of life while the dogs are temporarily in shelters. The support and love cultivated by Midwest Rescue of IL is astounding. From day one, they have made me feel like welcomed participant in their community.

After being a part of this rescue, I feel that it’s now my mission to share what I know about pit bulls as a breed. They are beautiful beings. Unfortunately, they are misunderstood and misrepresented. They aren’t the scary, malicious dogs people are trained to be afraid of. They’re tender, wanting to please you in every way. They get along extremely well with other people and animals and do exceptionally well in potty training. They are the biggest snugglers you could ever imagine, crawling their way into your heart. You don’t need to cross the street when you see a pit bull. Instead, please recognize that they are loving creatures. They deserve the utmost respect and kindness because many have come from unbearable living conditions and abuse. Pit bulls are pure love. If you give them a chance, they will melt your heart.

Thank you, Noah, for introducing me to your awesome pit bull clan. Thank you Midwest Rescue for including me in the well-being of your dogs. I am forever changed and a better person because of it!

{Noah is still available for adoption to a loving home. To learn more about Midwest Rescue of IL, please visit http://midwestrescue.org/ }
